MICHAEL'S MUSINGS: Memorial Day MemoriesPosted by: Michael Kurtz on May 21, 2009 Tagged in: General

The author of the Book of Hebrews writes: "Since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress......"
This scripture is set in the context of the "roll call" of faith which Hebrews chapter 11 so beautifully presents. Some versions read "Since we have a grandstand of witnesses cheering us on....." Think of that, persons whom we have known and love. Persons who have positively influenced our life and Christain walk. Persons whom we greatly miss as they have gone on to their heavenly home. These persons, these witnesses, are cheering us on in our Christian journey!
On this Memorial Day Weekend perhaps our thoughts are turned toward those whose presence we miss so much - - family members, loved ones, friends, those who have served on behalf of freedom and liberty, those who taught us about living the Christian faith. Who are you missing? Who are you remembering?
I have a list, as most of us do. I miss my grandparents. I miss my deceased uncles - Paul, Leon and Chester. I miss the two pastors of my childhood days who nurtured me in the faith. I miss my father-in-law, John. And, I still miss my childhood neighbor friend, Hagey Houck. When I was just a young fellow Hagey lived next door to our family.
Is there someone you are really missing? I'd love to hear your memories and reflections. How about posting a response and letting us hear about someone who greatly influenced your life.....who is "cheering you on!"
