Tami FieldsTami Fields

Associate Music Director

Tami Fields came on board ORUMC in August of 2009.  Tami directs the Children's Choir, Youth Choir, and Handbells (Ridge Ringers). She also leads the VBS music and sings in the Chancel Choir.  Since August the Children have performed two musicals, The Youth Choir has performed at the Women's ACC by singing the National Anthem, a special Festival choir was formed to attend and perform at the WNC Fellowship of Music and Arts Festival (Hickory, NC).  The Handbells have performed three times this semester as well as the children and youth performing monthly in worship services.

I feel it is a privilege to serve in ministry with such an outstanding ministry team @ ORUMC.  I am very passionate about working with children and sharing God's love through the arts.  The bible tells us on the first day God created....  He calls us all to create and be creative in the ways that we all have been gifted.

I have a BM and MM in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  I have completed all 3 levels of Doreen Rao's Choral Music Experience (Elon University).  I have studied with conductors/composers such as Cheryl Dupont, Dr. Rollo Dilworth, Dr. David Brunner, Paul Caldwell, Dr. Richard Cox, and Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt.  I am a member of NCMEA and MENC, American Choral Directors Association, Choristers Guild, The WNC Fellowship of Worship Arts, and Chorus America.  I have served as Music Director and worship leader at several churches throughout Greensboro.  I have taught public and private school, piano and voice, choral and general music in North Carolina.  I have also been the Artistic Director for a community children's chorus in North Carolina.

My choirs have allowed me some outstanding performances and the opportunity to work with and hear other choirs and directors throughout NC and the United States.  My choirs have performed in Chicago (Chicago Temple), NYC (St. John's Cathedral), Duke Chapel, with the GSO Symphony,  Greensboro Grasshoppers, Asheboro Copperheads, New Orleans (St. Louis Catherdral), Meredith College, Guilford College, and Elon University.

God has placed in my heart a desire for music and my prayer is to share this love with children to empower them with the word of God through music so that they will be able to withstand whatever comes their way and to stand strong and courageous in the Lord.

Tami and Bryan have been married for 12 years.  They have two wonderful daughters Katye and Kristen.  Bryan is a corporate pilot.  Katye and Kristen enjoy Ballet (GSO Ballet), piano, singing, boating, four-wheeling and flying with their dad.  Tami enjoys scrapbooking, going to Beth Moore Conferences with her mom and three sisters, attending music workshops, spending time with her family, and boating.
