Our January Mission of the Month is Disaster Relief. This is a new vision to the mission’s team, but it is not new to God. He has been very clear in His Word about what He expects of us as the Family of Christ. He expects us to come along side each other, support each other, and help whenever and wherever needed.
With many of our other Missions of the Month, we can plan ahead. We already know there is a pressing need for clean water and stoves in Guatemala, or feeding the hungry in our area. However, we cannot know when floods are going to destroy homes in impoverished areas of western North Carolina, or when tornadoes are going to demolish Kentucky.
We have made Disaster Relief our January Mission of the Month so we can be ready when any need comes our way the rest of the year. If you feel a heart tug for this mission as well, you can help several ways.
1. Donate money, over and above your general budget giving. This will give us a bucket from which to draw when we need either to fund a trip or to send donations when we cannot go ourselves.
2. Volunteer to be on the Disaster Relief Missions Team. Would you be willing to go to the mountains for a few days and help rebuild a home for a family who has lost everything? Alternatively, send supplies with a team if you cannot go. If so, please let me know, and I'll be glad to add you to our response team!
3. Pray for the Holy Spirit to show us where He would have us go. The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
The Lord said must do for others what we would have them do for us. Let us remind ourselves if the day ever came that we were looking at a rubble that used to be our home, we would all wish someone would come stand by us and help us put it all back together. What we do for those in need, we do for the Lord. Ask the Lord what He would have you do, and contact the Disaster Relief Team leaders, Tim and Christine Schneller at teamschneller@gmail.com, 336-800-9581.
